PREPAREDNESS IN FACING FLOOD DISASTERS AND ITS CORRELATION WITH THE DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE OF THE COMMUNITY IN CAWANG SUB-DISTRICT, EAST JAKARTA

Flood disasters are one of the serious problems faced by people in the Jakarta area. Community preparedness plays an important role in dealing with these disasters. The flood disaster in Cawang Sub-district is an annual flood, caused by long periods of rain and water sent from upstream. This research aims to; (1) Identify the level of community preparedness in facing flood disasters, and (2) Examine the correlation between the factors of age, level of education, and type of work and the level of community preparedness in facing flood hazards. This research uses quantitative research methods with descriptive statistical analysis and correlation tests. The respondents were 100 people. The parameters used to measure the level of community preparedness are; knowledge and attitudes towards disasters, emergency response plans, disaster warning systems, and resource mobilization. The research results show that; (1) The level of community preparedness in facing flood disasters is at the level of almost good preparation (64%), (2) The factors of age (r = 0.622), level of education (r = 0.719), and type of work (r = 0.569) have strong correlation with the level of community preparedness. This research shows the importance of community preparedness in facing flood disasters. The government and community must collaborate to improve preparedness and reduce the impact of flood disasters. Flood disaster education and socialization need to be promoted in the community as an effort to increase preparedness in facing flood disasters.
